ART ACADEMY
10-16 yrs
Our Art Academy classes offer students intensive training in more advanced art skills whilst further extending their creative capabilities. This two hour class is perfect for students who want to take their art to the next level and explore sophisticated mediums such as ink, modeling paste, charcoal and premium canvas.
Classes are limited to 10 students per artist instructor for more personalised feedback and detailed instruction.
Each term will focus on a specific theme and students will be exposed to a variety of art making processes and technical skills within that theme. They will complete a sophisticated body of work at the end of each term as well as a visual process diary.

Class Uniform:
Uniforms are not compulsary, however we do have Hive Art Studio shirts available to purchase from the Hive SHOP. These are recommended as art can get messy!
Makeups:
Up to 2 makeups classes per term are available for Performing Arts students per term. Notify your absence no less than 2 hrs before your class (via the Client Portal) to receive a makeup token. Makeups have a 2 month expiry, and may only be accessed while you are enrolled.
TERM 1 PROJECTS
This term art academy students will create projects within the theme ‘ocean’. We will be using a variety of materials including scratch board, large scale canvas and acrylic, watercolour, and ink as well as graphite and charcoal. Students will be exposed to a variety of technical skills and exercises and will put these into practice in their individual artworks. Students will have the opportunity to exhibit their work later in the year.

MID-YEAR EXHIBITION
JUNE 23-29, 2025 | WARNERS BAY THEATRE
Our 2025 mid-year Art exhibition will be integrated with our Musical Theatre production of Moana Jr. This is a great opportunity for students from our different creative disciplines to come together as they showcase their talents. Whilst our Theatre students take to the stage, our Art students will hold an exhibition of ocean-inspired artworks for parents and theatre audiences to appreciate at the Warners Bay Theatre foyer. This exhibition will include all art students across all ages.
END-OF-YEAR EXHIBITION
DATE AND TIME TBA
Our 2025 end-of-year exhibition is exclusively for our Art Academy students. Held at the Hive Art Studio in Term 4, students are able to submit an artwork of their choice that has been completed during their Hive class within the year, to appear in the exhibition.

ART CLUB SENIOR
11-16 yrs
Art Club Senior is an enjoyable balance of art skill development in a friendly social environment for teens where all stages of art skill development are catered for.
The program focuses on expanding art skills in drawing, sculpture, composition, colour mixing, acrylic painting and more, building greater depth in artworks through multiple layers. Students remain focused on a single project over multiple weeks to extend their skills.

TERM 1 PROJECTS
Project 1: Watercolour and Ink Tiger
Students will be taught to break down images into basic shapes to get accurate proportions. They will get to experiment with watercolour, ink and fine liner.
Project 2: Acrylic Whale Painting
Students will be taught more sophisticated acrylic painting techniques such as ‘glazing’ and ‘tonal underpainting’.
Project 3: Mixed Media Reef Sculpture
Students will get to use both paper clay and polymer clay and will look closely at creating detail and adding in a variety of texture and colour. They will be taught how to properly plan an artwork and how this will help them to properly execute it to the best of their abilities.
Project 4: Graphite and Colour Pencil Photo Realism
Students will be taught graphite and colour pencil shading techniques and create realistic drawings using the ‘grid method’.

Refine Skills and Express Yourself! TERM 1 PROJECTS
Project 1: Watercolour Fish
Students will be taught more sophisticated watercolour layering and application techniques to create vibrant and realistic fish.
Project 2: Paper Clay Fish
Students will take the colours and patterns from their fish paintings and transform them into a 3D paper clay sculpture.
Project 3: Pineapple Painting
This painting focuses on ‘on canvas’ colour blending and exposes students to new paint application techniques to create texture and dimension.
Project 4: Leopard Watercolour
Students will sketch their own leopard and look closely at proportion and how to break down complex images into simple shapes to create more accurate drawings and representations.
Project 5: Polymer Clay Insects
We will be creating detailed and vibrant polymer clay insects with a focus on detail and using different tools to make texture and pattern.

ILLUSTRATION
8-11 & 10-14 yrs
This 1 hour illustrators class is for children and teens who have a high interested in learning to draw with a purpose. The Illustration program is detail oriented art as teachers guide you through how to draw faces, people, clothing, landscapes and creatures. With a focus on pencil, watercolour and fine liner, students are able to work on their very own small book concept each term, with creative freedom to
develop and design their characters and their story.

TERM 1 PROJECTS
GAME ON! This term students will be creating a comic strip and cover poster and will come up with a story featuring a character who gets trapped inside a video game. Students are given prompts to help them flesh out their ideas and create engaging stories and are taught to plan and to create artwork with intent. Focus will be on character design, calligraphy, how to depict action through a sequence of still images and pen and marker techniques.

ART BUZZ
5-7 yrs
Perfect for children in Kindy and Year 1, this class has a strong focus on enjoyment of art making whilst learning essential art skills. Each week we enjoy art projects that introduce us to different art mediums like watercolour painting, pencil drawing, acrylic painting, oven bake clay and paper clay! In class our teacher will demonstrate how to make each project and will guide you step by step as you make it your own unique artwork. Students in the Art Buzz program further develop crucial fine-motor skills as well as focus on colour mixing and the elements of proportion and spacial awareness that contribute to effective composition.

TERM 1 PROJECTS
Project 1: Ice Cream Watercolour
Students will learn basic watercolour technique including wet on wet and wet on dry and will play around with colour and design to create their own ice creams.
Project 2: Polymer Clay Cat
This cute sculpture will be made from polymer clay. Sculpture in art buzz helps to increase students fine motor capabilities and their understanding of form and proportion.
Project 3: Mixed Media Collage
Students will experiment with watercolour, oil pastel, acrylic and pen as well as use a variety of tools to explore different mark making techniques.
Project 4: Moonscape Acrylic
We will be focusing on basic acrylic painting technique including proper brush grip, blending and mixing colours.
Project 5:Flamingo Sculpture
Students will combine flat painting and polymer clay to create a ‘sculpture painting’ that features lots of texture and detail.
Project 5:Flamingo Painting
Students will extend their watercolour skills and look at composition and creating a layered scene within an artwork.
